On Friday, Disney Channel will premiere a brand new super-length Mickey Mouse cartoon, Duck the Halls: A Mickey Mouse Christmas Special, which finds Donald Duck choosing to stay home and have his very first winter wonderland Christmas with Mickey, Minnie, Goofy and Pluto and not migrate south for the cold months as usual with his gal pal Daisy Duck. He's dumb and just doesn't seem to be all there, which makes him really entertaining. This is a slight nitpick, but I was thinking that it was going to be an hour long special. It debuted on December 9 th, 2016. Join Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Daisy, Goofy and Pluto as they celebrate the holidays for the first time together. It's horrifying because he's eventually on his death bed, but a riot to watch! A great mix of old and new.

The Christmas special is something else, it hits the heart in all the right places. One interesting thing to note is that Huey, Dewey and Louie are not together with Donald when they are about to travel — instead they are already present down south with Uncle Scrooge when Daisy arrive. They are all very short and under five minutes, the only exception being the Christmas special. After a little break about half a year now from the animated Mickey Mouse series, we got a Christmas special earlier this month. I'm glad they have Mickey live with his parents rather then with some uncle, tough it's bad to see young Mickey with Pluto, whom he won't met until years later. He just gets more sickly as time progresses. And to justify it, he tells the history of Santa Claus. That is, until the kids push Mickey too far and force him to tell a truly terrifying tale. About Huey, Dewey and Louie, I can't remember if we have actually seen them before in this series either if so it can't be many episodes — but we've seen Donald in lots of episodes.
Overall though, this was an interesting and very welcome change to Disney's animation and style. Also, it felt like it was trying too much to imitate the competition. We don't get to know if they are staying with Scrooge, but they are about to hit the beach with him when we first see them. Befuddled, the two men rush to find the Department of Sanitation truck carrying the bottles of booze. Jenny Gase-Baker and Joseph Holt are the art directors and Illya Owens is the editor. But in Duck the Halls there were moments that were right on the edge of something that would be unacceptable to the company. My only complaint about this series is the episode length. Mickey Mouse and his pals are getting ready to celebrate the holidays in a style all their own this year. It also reminded me of something that just wasn't inherently Disney? Jay visits his parents at the junkyard; Lloyd and Misako remember Garmadon in the Corridor of Elders; Zane remembers his father in Birchwood Forest and Kai and Nya remember their parents too.
