Figuring this one was going to be really bad but having nothing better to watch I gave this movie a shot anyway and I'm glad I did. The group comes upon a looting party on the street which turns out to be escaped prisoners from a nearby prison that was damaged during the earthquake. The Avengers has every standard comic movie cliche that any movie goer has seen in the last decade. Gringo throws a rock at the leader, trying to stop him from continuing raping Irina. Believe me, I could easily list at least a hundred of flaws and errors made in this movie ranging from human behavior over technical design to mathematical chances - not even regarding the constant violation of physical principles. With how many of these films would you know exactly how they'd end if you were seeing them for the first time? Avengers as a movie and as a team on screen is an unstoppable force. Of course this is fiction and you are allowed some creativity to keep things going but there is a limit to what you can ask from the viewer to believe. The group finally arrives at the cathedral where they are saved by a priest who shuts the door just in time.
You won't wince at how painfully awful this movie is, and you won't walk away knowing anything meaningful about 2012, but hopefully you'll help repay Sony pictures for the exorbitant amount of money that they and Roland Emmerich spent on their special effects budget. The group watches the tram reach the top of the hill when suddenly a frayed cable breaks, causing the tram to fall all the way back down, destroying the tram and killing everyone inside. I won't even attempt to explain the story as it unfolds, as that would risk possible unintentional spoilers, so nary a clue here. Some are just not interesting, others are so overdrawn Yuri, Tamara that you just can't think of them as real people.
I'm happy that Marvel had the sense to keep these properties to themselves and to move forward with these characters in the manner in which they did. Experience the awesomeness for yourself. So, it was awesome to see a well acted, great looking film that had all the suspense I needed without the explicit gore.
Suddenly, a tsunami warning is heard and they all rush to the hillside cable tram station that could quickly take them up the hill. The two groups pair up and decide to travel down to together. The cleaning lady of the club leads them through a tunnel to a nearby manhole. The leader of the prisoners rapes Irina while the rest of the gang sit around telling jokes. What's the story with the girl being an All-American blonde haired kid turning into an adult brunette with - unless I'm mistaken - a European twang? Sure, I love my Shining and even a little Evil Dead, but too much realistic gore just takes me out of the story. Jackson's Nick Fury is finally more than just the guy making surprise appearances.
