I suppose they might, but that would be very rare. Was I supposed to get a second 3mm Allen Key with my eEuroparts tensioner? This also allowed me to verify that I should use the green lines for the crankshaft and camshaft pulleys 1 and 2; and use the white lines for camshaft pulleys 3 and 4. I thought that the 9-5 and 9-3 used the same block and only the stroke was lengthened for the 2. The crankshaft locking tool is very nice because you do not need to visually align the crankshaft using the notches. Note also the arrows indicating the direction of belt rotation.

The number closest to the notch should be the notch that is aligned with the notches in the backing tin that surrounds the timing belt. Check for it at Radio Parts Group. New belt positioned on camshaft pulleys 3 and 4. Can I get an estimate for just replacing the belt and another estimate if the pulley system needs to be replaced.

I just did this last week on my friend's Gary Fisher and we struggled with it too until we figured out the optimal tape application. Anywho, the serpentine belt and its pulleys receive much wear and stress from its constant turning while the engine is operating. Very easy to get to.
Now we are researching and building new kits at an exponentially increasing pace. The upper idler pulley is a joke to get out. Fit the crankshaft lock and recheck the pulleys with the alignment jig. The item must be new and in its original manufacturer packaging to be eligible for a cash refund. It's easy to roll the belt on from underneath last. Now it's time to route the new belt. You won't need to raise it much, just enough.

Find a level hard surface to park your car so you can use a jack and stands easily and safely. The bearings they contain wear over time and the pulleys can separate from the bearings, which will throw the belt off track, stop the critical functions of the car from functioning, and will leave you stranded where you are. Nov 18, 2009 The reason the service writers always recommend that the water pump be changed along with the timing belt and cam and crank seals, is that they are all located together, and it takes a long time which you pay for to take everything off to get to the area, so you may as well replace the other things which will go out soon with that high of a mileage anyway. I got gipped and didn't get one, I had to use one of my allen wrenches. Each camshaft pulley will have two notches and a stamp next to each notch: 1 or 2 on the left two camshaft pulleys; 3 or 4 on the right two camshaft pulleys. I knew that I also wanted to change out the tensioning and idler pulleys at the same time.

Here we see a 9-3 and 9-5 tensioner pulley with a new hardware kit I follow Saab's suggested service listing for these bearings, and that is replacement every 60k miles. If the notches in the camshaft pulleys do not align properly, rotate the crankshaft one more revolution and the notches should be in alignment.
Fit the wedge piece so that the belt does not move from the crankshaft. With the tension relieved, there's a hole in the side of the tensioner that you can stick a 3mm Allen-key into to lock it into a relieved position. You may wish to do the same. New belt positioned on camshaft pulleys 1 and 2. Use a 15mm wrench and it's out. There's a clip circled in green that supports a hose under the bracket. Remove the Saab plastic engine cover around the oil dipstick.
